This is pretty much our whole world.

[A close up shot of our immediate world contains many of our daily activities. Those would include our train stop, library, post office, park, Church and bank. The farthest point on this map is 0.4 miles away. The little yellow thumbtack is our building. ]
[When you back it up a bit further, our world is complete with Trader Joes, coffee shops, friends apartments, two theaters, gym, Kari's work and a plethora of bars and restaurants. The farthest point on this map is 0.8 miles away. Same little thumbtack is us.]
[This is the view of what we like to call our backyard, even though it's 4 miles to the base of these mountains.]

Maybe we could come up with a logarithm that can correlate a "local" life with population densities of one's locale.
Hmmm... Library, Church, P.O., work, park, and bank would be about 1.5 miles here. Places to eat, friends, and grocery would have to be ~2.5 miles.
What's the longest period of time that you've stayed in that 0.8 mile quadrant? Sometimes I the last time that I'd left Marion... sad.
Also:
LA density = walk
Marion density = bike
Suburban density = car
Stupid Google Earth, all wastin' our time....
I love maps. I need to do this, too. I have a dream of making up a map of my neighborhood, laminating it, and tracing each walk I take for a year, then looking for patterns and coming up with some kind of algorithm or conceptual art piece based on my findings. Haven't done it yet. But there's an idea for you, in all your spare time.
